How is my college GPA calculated?
We multiply each grade value by the course credits to get 'Quality Points'. Then we divide total Quality Points by total Credits. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit class gives you 12 Quality Points. Your GPA is the average of these points.
Is a 4.3 GPA possible in college?
Yes! Some universities (like Stanford, Cornell, and Brown) use a 4.3 grading scale where an A+ is worth 4.3. However, most standard US colleges max out at 4.0 for an A.
Does a 'W' (Withdrawal) affect my GPA?
Generally, no. A 'W' grade typically means you withdrew from a class before the completion deadline. It appears on your transcript but does not possess a grade value and is excluded from GPA calculations.
Weighted vs. Unweighted GPA: What's the difference?
Unweighted GPA (usually 0-4.0) measures performance regardless of course difficulty. Weighted GPA gives extra points for Honors or AP/IB classes (often up to 5.0). Most colleges look at both contextually.
Do I need to sign up to save my cumulative GPA?

How do I calculate GPA from a 100-point scale?
You need to convert the percentage to a 4.0 scale first. For example, 93-100 is typically an A (4.0), 90-92 is an A- (3.7), etc. Our tool handles these conversions automatically when you select your university.
What is the difference between Semester and Cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA corresponds to your grades in a single academic term. Cumulative GPA is the average of all grades earned across all semesters of your degree so far.
Can I use this calculator for High School vs College?
GradeGoal is optimized for US Universities (credits system), but the math is identical for High Schools using credit-weighted systems. Just check if your school uses a 4.0 or 5.0 scale.
